The Arewa Youth Ambassadors (AYA) have called for the immediate release of Musa Nura Aljan, a well-known local hunter who worked closely with security agencies to confront banditry across northern Nigeria. Despite years of risking his life to track criminals, rescue kidnapped victims, and recover stolen livestock, Aljan now faces a 45-year prison sentence a punishment AYA describes as deeply unjust.

According to AYA, Aljan gained recognition for providing intelligence that helped security operatives locate bandit hideouts, intercept stolen cattle, and arrest dangerous criminals. He became widely respected after confronting bandits along the Kaduna Abuja highway, an operation that led to the recovery of cattle and the seizure of weapons including AK-47 rifles, an AK-49, double-barrelled guns, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. He also reportedly rejected a N2 million bribe offered by bandits attempting to move stolen cattle across a bridge.

AYA expressed shock that someone who consistently handed over arrested suspects and confiscated weapons to security authorities would later be prosecuted and sentenced so severely. They argue that Aljan’s case reflects a troubling pattern in which civilians who support national security efforts are not given the protection or recognition they deserve.

In their statement, the group demanded a full and independent review of the circumstances surrounding Aljan’s arrest, trial, and conviction. They also called for a public inquiry to examine how a citizen celebrated for his bravery could end up behind bars. AYA emphasized that civilians who risk their lives to assist law-enforcement agencies must be protected, not criminalized.

The group warned that punishing patriotic individuals like Aljan could discourage others from assisting in the fight against insecurity. They stressed that while positions of authority are temporary, principles such as justice, fairness, and accountability must endure.

AYA reaffirmed its dedication to advocating for peace, justice, and the protection of all Nigerians who step forward to support the country’s security efforts.
