The Office of the National Security Adviser has denied allegations of procuring thallium sulphate or authorising its acquisition.
The Office said neither it nor any agency under its supervision purchased or initiated procurement of the chemical substance.
The denial follows claims linked to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai.
El-Rufai reportedly sought clarification on the alleged purchase of about 10 kilograms of thallium sulphate.
ONSA disclosed that it has referred the allegation to the Department of State Services for investigation.
A formal response was delivered to el-Rufai’s residence on Sunday, rejecting the allegation in clear terms.

The Office stated that it neither procured nor initiated any process to acquire the chemical substance.
It also stressed that it has no intention of procuring thallium sulphate in the future.
ONSA explained that the matter was referred to the DSS for a comprehensive and independent investigation.
The Service is expected to invite all parties with relevant information to provide evidence.
According to the letter, such evidence will assist in establishing facts and ensuring due diligence.
The Office noted that the claim was reportedly circulating among opposition political leaders.
It assured that investigations would be conducted transparently and in line with national security procedures.
ONSA concluded by expressing formal regards from the National Security Adviser.
The development follows public debate over the alleged importation of a highly toxic chemical substance.
