Nigerian Cancer Society Receives ₦2m Donation from UICC President-Elect

The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has received a ₦2 million donation from the President-Elect of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, in support of cancer prevention and control initiatives in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the Society, the donation is intended to support the implementation of a critical cancer project under the NCS 2026 Work Plan, with a focus on strengthening cancer prevention, advocacy, and control efforts nationwide.

President and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Cancer Society, Professor Abidemi Omonisi, directed that the funds be channelled towards a specific project designed to deliver direct impact to Nigerians as part of the Society’s strategic programme for 2026.

The Society also disclosed that Dr. Shinkafi-Bagudu had earlier contributed ₦500,000 to support the successful hosting of the 2025 Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Cancer Society, held in October 2025.

According to the NCS, the donation reflects Dr. Shinkafi-Bagudu’s sustained commitment to public health, cancer advocacy, and improving access to quality cancer care in Nigeria.

The leadership and members of the Society expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a significant boost to ongoing efforts to reduce the cancer burden in the country.

The Nigerian Cancer Society reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration with key stakeholders and partners to advance cancer care, prevention, and control across Nigeria.
