Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says any United States agreement with Iran must dismantle its nuclear infrastructure.

He said this during an address at the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations in the United States.

Netanyahu disclosed that he conveyed this position to US President Donald Trump during a recent meeting.

According to him, merely halting uranium enrichment is insufficient to guarantee Iran will not pursue nuclear weapons.

He stressed that enrichment equipment and facilities must be dismantled entirely to prevent future nuclear development.

“There shall be no enrichment capability, not just stopping the process but removing the infrastructure,” Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu also spoke on Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, saying operations are still ongoing.

He said Israeli forces have destroyed about 150 kilometres of tunnels out of an estimated 500 kilometres.

Netanyahu added that Israel must “complete the job” by dismantling all remaining tunnel networks in the territory.

Meanwhile, a second round of talks between the United States and Iran is expected this week.

An Iranian diplomat said Tehran seeks an agreement that provides economic benefits to both countries.

Netanyahu expressed scepticism about the negotiations but said enriched nuclear material must leave Iran under any deal.

The United States and Iran resumed negotiations earlier this month over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

The talks aim to prevent a renewed military confrontation between both countries.

US officials said Washington has deployed a second aircraft carrier to the region as talks continue.

They added that military options remain possible if negotiations fail to reach an agreement.
