The 29th Annual National Qur’anic Recitation Competition organized by Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) has continued in grand style at the JIBWIS Islamic Centre, Guzape, Abuja, drawing eminent Islamic scholars, senior government officials, and dignitaries from across Nigeria.

The week-long event, holding from December 21 to December 28, 2025 (1st–8th Rajab 1447 AH), brings together exceptional Qur’an reciters who emerged from state-level competitions nationwide, reaffirming JIBWIS’ long-standing commitment to Qur’anic excellence, moral upbringing, and unity of the Ummah.

JINGIR’S MESSAGE DOMINATES THE EVENT

The atmosphere of the competition was profoundly stirred by the presence and address of Sheikh Sani Yahya Jingir, National Chairman of JIBWIS. His message resonated strongly throughout the venue as he reminded political leaders and the general public of the weight of responsibility that comes with leadership.

Sheikh Jingir emphasized that leadership is a sacred trust, urging those in authority to remain faithful to the promises made to the masses, govern with justice, and prioritize the welfare of the people. Attendees described his address as one that “shook the atmosphere,” leaving a lasting moral impact on both leaders and participants.

TOP GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS IN ATTENDANCE

The opening ceremony witnessed the attendance of several high-ranking officials, showing the national importance of the competition. Among those present were, former Vice President Namadi Sambo, Federal Minister of Transportation Senator Said Alkali, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, and other political office holders.

In his remarks, Namadi Sambo called for peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, and mutual respect, noting that the Qur’an provides guidance not only for spiritual life but also for governance and national unity.

Observers noted that the convergence of political leaders at a religious gathering such as this served as a subtle reminder of their accountability to the people and to Allah.

STRENGTHENING UNITY THROUGH THE QUR’AN

JIBWIS officials reiterated that the annual competition goes beyond recitation, serving as a platform to inculcate discipline, humility, and leadership values in Nigerian youth. The event continues to attract scholars, students, and members of the public, with daily recitation sessions streamed live and widely shared on social media under the tag “Abuja 1447/2025.”

FROM STATE COMPETITIONS TO THE NATIONAL STAGE

Participants at the national competition emerged from various state-level qualifiers, including the Borno State Qur’anic Recitation Competition, which concluded in September,  at Elkanemi Hall, Maiduguri, under the leadership of Sheikh Modu Mustapha Albarnawy.

EVENT CONTINUES

As of December 22, 2025, the competition remains ongoing, with anticipation building toward the grand finale. Many stakeholders have praised JIBWIS for sustaining the competition for nearly three decades as a cornerstone of Islamic education, unity, and moral development in Nigeria.
