The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed deep grief over the death of seven journalists who lost their lives in a fatal road accident in Gombe State on Monday.
The victims, all media professionals from various organisations, were returning from a colleague’s wedding ceremony in the Gombe South Senatorial District when the crash occurred.
They were said to be travelling in a show of solidarity with an NTA journalist who was getting married.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, the Minister described the incident as “a heartbreaking and painful loss to the media industry and the nation at large.”
He highlighted the commitment of the deceased journalists to public service, noting that they consistently informed Nigerians with integrity and dedication.
Idris extended condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Gombe State Council, and particularly the families and colleagues of the deceased. He prayed for comfort for the bereaved and strength to endure the tragedy.
He added that the Federal Government stands in solidarity with the affected families and the media community during this moment of mourning.
