The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has warned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of serious consequences if it proceeds with its planned congress and convention against court directives.

Speaking on the matter, Joash Amupitan said ignoring court orders could invalidate any outcomes arising from such activities.

He cited past precedents in Zamfara State and Plateau State, where elections were nullified due to non-compliance with legal requirements.

According to him, in such situations, courts may declare the candidate with the second-highest number of votes as the winner.

The INEC chairman stressed that failure to obey court orders carries legal consequences.

He noted that while political parties have the freedom to act, such actions must remain within the bounds of the law.

Amupitan said INEC is determined to avoid a repeat of past scenarios where legal disputes disrupted electoral outcomes.

He reiterated that the Commission’s position is guided strictly by existing court judgments and legal provisions.
