The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a viral graphic claiming that March 26 is the deadline for government officials seeking election to resign from office.

In a public notice, the Commission said the information circulating online is false and did not originate officially.

INEC said it has not issued any announcement regarding such a resignation deadline.

According to the Commission, the graphic currently circulating on social media is fake and misleading.

The electoral body therefore advised members of the public, media organisations and political stakeholders to disregard the message entirely.

The commission stressed that all official announcements and updates are released only through its verified communication channels.

These include:

  • The official website: www.inecnigeria.org
  • Verified social media accounts of the Commission
  • Official press releases issued by INEC

The Commission urged citizens to verify election-related information through official platforms before sharing it.

INEC warned that spreading unverified messages could mislead the public and create confusion about electoral processes.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate, timely and transparent information on election matters.
