INEC Delegation Arrives Dhaka to Monitor Bangladesh Elections

A high-level delegation from Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission has arrived in Dhaka to monitor Bangladesh’s 13th Parliamentary Elections and National Referendum.

The polls are scheduled for February 12, 2026, marking a significant moment in Bangladesh’s democratic process.

Bangladesh’s Chief Election Commissioner, A M M Nasir Uddin, briefed national and international observers ahead of voting.

He was joined by four other Electoral Commissioners during the formal session with observers and journalists.

The Commission said nearly 128 million voters are expected to participate across 299 constituencies.

A total of 2,028 candidates from 50 political parties are contesting the parliamentary elections.

Voters will also decide on the “July National Charter,” a proposal focused on constitutional and institutional reforms.

About 330 international observers and over 160 foreign journalists are accredited for the exercise.

Domestically, 45,000 local observers and 60,000 journalists will monitor and report on the process.

The Bangladesh Election Commission has deployed 900,000 security personnel to ensure peaceful voting nationwide.

Representing INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Nigerian delegation is led by National Commissioner Prof. Sunday Ajah.

The team has begun pre-election assessments, visiting polling stations across Dhaka to observe final preparations.
