The House of Representatives has commenced an institutional review into issues raised over the passage, harmonisation, presidential assent, and gazetting of four newly enacted tax reform laws.

The review follows public concerns about the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025; and Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025, particularly regarding questions surrounding the versions passed by both chambers of the National Assembly and those published in the Official Gazette.

In an official statement, the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi, confirmed that a seven-member Ad Hoc Committee has been constituted to investigate the matter.

The committee will work with relevant parliamentary bodies and the management of the National Assembly to establish the sequence of events, identify administrative lapses, and determine whether any external influence or irregularity played a role in the legislative process.

The leadership of the National Assembly, under Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has directed the Clerk to the National Assembly to re-gazette the Acts and issue Certified True Copies that accurately reflect what was passed by lawmakers.

The House clarified that the review does not represent a reversal of any legislative decision or admission of procedural error but is focused solely on ensuring constitutional compliance and protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s lawmaking process.

The House urged the public to remain patient and avoid speculation as the review continues, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, due process, and the rule of law.
