Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North and a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), sharply criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar following his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Speaking on the Channels Television programme Politics Today, Oshiomhole questioned Atiku’s capacity to lead Nigeria, arguing that his failure to bring stability to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) undermines any claim that he could “fix” the country.
Oshiomhole reminded his audience that Atiku had previously been a member of the APC but left after failing to secure its presidential ticket. He suggested that Atiku’s return to the PDP was more about his political ambitions than a genuine commitment to building the party and that despite his long-standing influence, he did not “build PDP.”
According to Oshiomhole, Atiku’s track record within his former party raises serious doubts about his ability to provide national leadership. “If Atiku as a former vice-president under PDP could not fix PDP … how can he lay claim to fix Nigeria?” he asked.
In response to Atiku’s formal declaration to the ADC, marked by a celebratory post on X showing him holding his membership card, Oshiomhole dismissed the move as inconsequential to his broader critique.
Atiku’s defection followed his resignation from the PDP in July, amid persistent internal conflicts.
