Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf Receives Tinubu’s 2025 Excellence in Public Service Award

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has been named one of the recipients of the 2025 Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS), an honour presented on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The award, announced in a statement issued Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, recognises the administration’s achievements in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, urban renewal, and social welfare.

According to the statement, the Yusuf administration has carried out extensive rehabilitation of public schools, recruited additional teachers, and increased funding for the state’s education sector. The government has also upgraded primary healthcare facilities, improved hospitals, and expanded access to medical services across Kano.

In agriculture, the state has strengthened extension services, provided timely inputs, and rolled out multiple farmer-support initiatives aimed at boosting productivity. Kano is also undergoing a wide-ranging urban renewal programme designed to modernise the state capital and improve liveability.

Governor Yusuf received the award alongside his counterparts from Zamfara, Bauchi, Adamawa, Enugu and Akwa Ibom states.

The ceremony was organised by the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service, an initiative of Best Media Relations in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). President Tinubu was represented at the event by the SGF, Senator George Akume.

The Chairman of the NEAPS Board of Trustees, Justice Mary Odili (rtd.), presided over the ceremony, which also honoured other senior government officials, including NDLEA Chairman Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.), the EFCC Chairman, NFIU Chairman, the Comptroller-General of Customs, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, the Minister of Aviation, the Minister of Finance, and the Director-General of NEMA.

Governor Yusuf dedicated the award to the people of Kano State and reaffirmed his commitment to people-focused governance and sustainable development.
