A renowned security analyst, Dr Kabiru Adamu, has called on Nigerians to embrace tolerance and unity in the face of growing security challenges across the country.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television in Abuja, Dr Adamu stressed that dialogue and intelligence gathering remain critical tools for de-escalating conflicts and preventing violence.

He noted that security situations in Nigeria often deteriorate during election periods, attributing the trend to heightened political tensions that frequently trigger violence. According to him, this pattern underscores the need for proactive measures to maintain peace, especially as the country approaches future elections.

Dr Adamu warned Nigerians against allowing divisions to deepen, drawing a stark comparison to the 1994 Rwanda genocide. He urged citizens to learn from history and avoid actions or rhetoric that could incite ethnic hatred or violence.

He also cautioned against labeling entire ethnic groups as terrorists, emphasizing that terrorism is not confined to any particular ethnicity. Such generalizations, he said, only fuel distrust and worsen insecurity.

The security expert concluded by urging Nigerians to prioritize unity, responsible dialogue, and mutual understanding as essential steps toward building a safer and more cohesive nation.
