The Edo State House of Assembly has summoned Honourable Natasha Irobosa, the wife of music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia and the lawmaker representing Egor Constituency, to appear before its Committee on Ethics and Privileges.

The Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, announced the summons during plenary on Tuesday, stating that Natasha has been trending for the wrong reasons across social media, dragging the reputation of the Assembly “into rofor-rofor” through her recent public conduct. The Committee has been directed to investigate the situation and report back to the House within two weeks.

What Triggered the Summons

The controversy stems from a series of viral videos that captured moments of tension between Natasha and her husband. One of the clips came from an Instagram Live session hosted by media personality Daddy Freeze, where 2Baba briefly appeared before an argument erupted off-camera between the couple. The exchange led to his abrupt exit from the live session, and the clip quickly spread across social platforms.

Shortly after that, another video surfaced online, allegedly recorded in the United Kingdom. It shows officers speaking with 2Baba outside what appears to be a retail store, with Natasha visibly upset in the background. The video fuelled widespread speculation, including claims of an arrest, although none of these allegations have been confirmed by UK authorities. Police sources in London reportedly declined comment, noting they do not disclose information on individuals who have not been charged.

These circulating videos, and the heated public reaction that followed, prompted the Assembly to take formal action, insisting that the behaviour of a sitting lawmaker, even in personal matters, reflects on the institution.

Wider Context Behind the Drama

The situation has generated massive debate online, turning both Natasha and 2Baba into trending topics for days. On Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok and Facebook, clips from the live broadcast and the alleged UK incident have been dissected, criticized, and defended by thousands of Nigerians.

Several of 2Baba’s former associates who joined Daddy Freeze’s livestream had made remarks regarding the singer’s private life and his relationship with Natasha. Their comments appeared to fuel the couple’s on-air confrontation, which contributed to the perception that the issue had moved from a private disagreement into a public spectacle.

Why the Assembly Says It Matters

The Edo Assembly’s decision highlights a growing concern among Nigerian legislative institutions regarding the conduct of public officials on social media. The Speaker emphasized that lawmakers are not only judged by their performance in office but also by how their actions, personal or otherwise, reflect on the state.

In recent years, similar cases in other state assemblies, particularly involving viral online behaviour, have led to warnings, suspensions, or ethics investigations. The Natasha situation may set yet another precedent for how the Nigerian political system responds to controversies amplified by social media.

What Happens Next

Natasha Irobosa is expected to appear before the Committee within the week to state her own side of the story. As of now, she has not issued a public statement regarding the summons.

The outcome of the Committee’s investigation will determine whether she faces disciplinary measures, is exonerated, or is issued a formal warning. Her constituents in Egor are also keenly watching developments, as public perception could influence her political standing.

Public Reaction

Across Nigeria, the situation has sparked divided opinions. Some argue that the Assembly is overreaching into a private marital matter. Others insist that once a personal issue becomes a viral national discussion, a public official must address the implications. A recurring sentiment online suggests that the Assembly is responding more to optics than ethics, but the coming weeks will reveal how far the matter will go.
