The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the suspension of all activities related to the delineation of electoral wards in the Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State.

INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, confirmed the development on Saturday, noting that the issue has been escalated to the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) for further action.

Despite the suspension, Eta-Messi clarified that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the constituency will continue as scheduled, relying on existing polling units and registration areas.

The decision comes in the wake of a peaceful protest on September 9 by Urhobo and Ijaw community members from Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South-West Local Government Areas. The protesters demanded the implementation of a 2022 Supreme Court judgment that ordered fresh ward delineation in the constituency.

INEC’s move is expected to calm tensions as consultations continue at the national level, with stakeholders awaiting clarity on when the delineation exercise might resume.
