A tragic multi-vehicle collision at Iyana Meiran, Lagos, has left two people dead and three others critically injured after a Dangote silo mixer truck reportedly lost control.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck, which was travelling at high speed, suffered brake failure before ramming into a commercial mini bus and several tricycles (Keke Napep) along the busy roadway.

Passersby and emergency responders acted swiftly to rescue the injured, who were immediately transported to nearby hospitals for critical medical care.

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Dangote truck fled the scene, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the crash, including vehicle maintenance and road safety compliance.

Eyewitness: “It all happened so fast. The truck just veered out of control and smashed into everything in its path. People were screaming and running; the injured were in bad shape.”

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and police have cordoned off the accident scene and are gathering evidence, including vehicle inspection reports and eyewitness accounts.

Experts warn that incidents involving heavy-duty trucks often escalate due to mechanical failure, speeding, or overloading, highlighting the urgent need for stricter safety compliance and vehicle maintenance protocols on Nigeria’s roads.

The crash caused significant traffic disruption along the Iyana Meiran corridor, a major Lagos transit hub. Residents and commercial drivers called for better road safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The Dangote mixer truck tragedy underscores the critical importance of vehicle maintenance, driver training, and road safety enforcement in Lagos. Authorities continue investigations while emergency services provide care for the injured, and Nigerians await accountability and corrective measures to prevent further loss of life.
