The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed his commitment to sports development following his unveiling as an ambassador for Team Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The appointment, announced by the National Sports Commission, is part of efforts to strengthen national support for the Games.
The ambassadorial team includes key sports administrators such as Amos Adamu, Patrick Ekeji, Alhassan Yakmut, and Gbenga Elegbeleye.
Also included are accomplished athletes like Olympic medalist Daniel Igali and Commonwealth champion Blessing Oborodudu.

The mix of administrators and former athletes is designed to provide both technical expertise and practical insight.
Adeniyi described sports as a vital tool for national unity and youth development.
He emphasised that success at international competitions depends on strong institutional support.
He noted that the initiative reflects a collective responsibility to ensure athletes are well-prepared.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2.
Athletes from across the Commonwealth will compete in multiple disciplines, including athletics, swimming, boxing, cycling, and gymnastics, with full inclusion of para-sports.
The ambassadorial initiative is expected to boost morale, coordination, and overall performance as Nigeria prepares for the global event.
