FC Barcelona have been dealt a major setback ahead of their Champions League showdown with Paris Saint-Germain, as winger Raphinha and goalkeeper Joan García have both been sidelined through injury.

The club confirmed on Thursday that the two players picked up knocks during training earlier this week and will not feature in the highly anticipated clash at the Parc des Princes.

A statement from Barcelona read: “Medical tests have confirmed that Raphinha and Joan García are unavailable for selection due to injuries sustained during training. Both players are undergoing treatment and their recovery will determine availability for future matches.”

Raphinha, who has been in fine form on the right wing this season, is expected to be out for several weeks, with initial reports suggesting a hamstring problem. His absence leaves Xavi Hernández with fewer options in attack, particularly given recent injury concerns within the squad.

Meanwhile, Joan García, who has been serving as back-up to Marc-André ter Stegen, will also miss the trip to Paris. While his absence may not impact the starting XI, it reduces Barcelona’s depth in the goalkeeping department.

The double setback comes at a crucial time for Barcelona, who are looking to make a strong statement in Europe after inconsistent domestic performances. PSG, led by Kylian Mbappé, will be formidable opponents, and Xavi will now need to adjust his plans accordingly.

Fans have expressed concern on social media, with many highlighting Raphinha’s influence as a key creative outlet.

Club officials have not provided a specific timeline for the players’ return but indicated that updates will be shared as recovery progresses.
