NEMA Engages Kannywood Stakeholders on Disaster Risk Communication

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kano Operations Office, has participated in a Kannywood Roundtable Discussion aimed at strengthening collaboration between the creative industry and public institutions on disaster risk communication and public awareness.

The roundtable, hosted by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in partnership with Image Merchant Promotion Limited (IMPR), was held on 20 December 2025 at Tahir Guest Palace, Kano. It brought together key stakeholders from the Kannywood film industry, relevant government agencies, and allied organisations to deliberate on industry challenges, innovation, and strategic media engagement.

Discussions at the forum underscored the growing influence of film and media content as effective tools for emergency preparedness, disaster risk reduction, and public enlightenment. Participants highlighted the power of creative storytelling in communicating safety messages, promoting early warning awareness, and encouraging positive behavioural change within communities.

Speaking at the event, representatives of NEMA emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration with Kannywood practitioners to produce educational and advocacy content that enhances safety consciousness and community resilience, particularly in disaster-prone areas.

The agency noted that partnerships with the creative sector would support the dissemination of timely and culturally relevant messages on disaster preparedness, response, and recovery across northern Nigeria and beyond.

NEMA’s participation in the roundtable reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging strategic partnerships with media and creative professionals to deepen public engagement and strengthen national disaster awareness efforts.
