Britain’s Jack Draper produced a stunning performance to defeat Novak Djokovic and reach the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells Masters.

Draper fought back to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7/5) in a dramatic match on Wednesday. The victory ended Djokovic’s hopes of returning to the Indian Wells quarter-finals for the first time since 2016.

Meanwhile, world number one Carlos Alcaraz also advanced after a strong performance, while Daniil Medvedev and Cameron Norrie secured straight-set victories.

Draper Battles Past Djokovic in Three Sets

Draper showed determination and tactical discipline throughout the match.

Although Djokovic won the first set, Draper responded by increasing the pressure in the second. He kept the Serbian star moving across the court with well-timed drop shots.

As a result, the British player forced the match into a decisive third set.

After the match, Draper praised Djokovic and expressed pride in his performance.

“I came out here tonight and won through determination,” Draper said. “I tried to solve problems on court and keep a positive attitude.”

Third-Set Battle Decides the Match

The turning point came early in the third set during a long and exhausting rally.

Both players chased drop shots and lobs in a dramatic exchange. Djokovic eventually won the point with a powerful overhead shot.

However, the effort left the 38-year-old exhausted.

Djokovic later admitted that moment affected the rest of the match.

“I just ran completely out of gas,” he said.

Draper soon broke Djokovic’s serve and pushed the match into a tense tiebreak.

Although Djokovic briefly led 4-3, Draper stayed composed and sealed the victory 7-5 in the tiebreak.

Draper Sets Up Quarter-Final Clash With Medvedev

The win marks a major moment for Draper, who recently returned from a long arm injury.

The British player missed several months of action before this tournament. Despite that setback, he delivered one of the biggest wins of his career.

Next, Draper will face Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals.

Medvedev secured his place in the last eight with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over American player Alex Michelsen.

Alcaraz Continues Dominant 2026 Season

World number one Carlos Alcaraz also advanced after defeating Casper Ruud 6-1, 7-6 (7/2).

The Spanish star dominated the first set with powerful winners from across the court.

“My first set was incredible,” Alcaraz said. “I felt almost unplayable.”

Ruud improved in the second set. However, Alcaraz controlled the tiebreak and finished the match with a backhand winner.

Alcaraz Extends Perfect Record This Season

Alcaraz continues an impressive start to the 2026 season.

The 22-year-old recently completed a career Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open.

He also claimed the Qatar Open title earlier this year.

With his latest win at Indian Wells, Alcaraz now holds a 15–0 record in 2026.

Next, he will face Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the quarter-finals.
