Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council, a move widely seen as part of preparations for the forthcoming 2027  general elections.

According to a press release issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, the decision aims to create an enabling environment for members of the council who may wish to contest elective positions.

The directive requires all Commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to Permanent Secretaries on or before Friday, April 3, 2026.

Governor Zulum, in the statement, expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Commissioners for their service, dedication, and contributions to Borno State’s development. He commended their efforts in supporting his administration’s policies and programs, particularly in critical areas of governance and post-conflict recovery.

Political observers note that such dissolutions are not unusual ahead of election cycles, as they allow appointees to fully participate in the political process without conflicts of interest.

The dissolution marks a significant transition in the state’s executive structure, with expectations that a reconstituted council may emerge after the electoral process or at the governor’s discretion.

The development signals the beginning of heightened political activities in Borno State as stakeholders position themselves for the upcoming polls.
