Woro Massacre: Ongoing Burials After Deadly Attack, Kwara State

Scores killed in Kaiama Armed attack leaves Woro and nearby villages devastated. Mass graves hold over 88 bodies as residents flee in fear.

Armed men attacked Woro and nearby villages in Kaiama Local Government Area earlier this week. The assault left scores of residents dead and many missing.

On Wednesday, at least 75 bodies were buried in mass graves after being found in the bush and on Thursday, 13 more bodies were laid to rest as search teams continued recovery efforts.

Residents say searches are ongoing more bodies may still be found.

The community is largely deserted now, with many families fleeing their homes, Security forces have been deployed, but residents remain afraid of renewed violence.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq labelled the killings a “pure massacre” and condemned the violence and Authorities say the attack targeted residents for resisting extremist pressure.

Villagers and officials are still searching bushes and surrounding areas for missing loved ones and more bodies.
