World Bank Disaster Risk Team Visits NEMA Headquarters

The National Emergency Management Agency has received a disaster risk management technical mission from the World Bank in Abuja.

The meeting took place at NEMA headquarters and focused on strengthening collaboration on disaster risk management and emergency preparedness.

NEMA Director-General, Zubaida Umar, welcomed the delegation during the official visit on Tuesday.

The World Bank delegation was led by Senior Disaster Risk Management Specialist Francis Nkoka.

Officials from both organisations reviewed ongoing activities and assessed progress in current disaster management programmes.

The discussions also focused on strategies to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience across vulnerable communities in Nigeria.

Participants highlighted the importance of improving systems that support early response and disaster risk reduction.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters.

The meeting also emphasized continued partnership between NEMA and the World Bank on disaster risk management initiatives.

Officials said the collaboration aims to build stronger systems that improve emergency response and protect communities from disaster impacts.
