A suspected child abduction attempt was foiled in Ogbagi Akoko, Ondo State, after a vigilant resident raised the alarm and mobilised community members.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Wednesday and praised residents for their swift response.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident occurred on March 22, 2026.
On that day, a three-year-old boy, Alex Ayobami, left home on an errand to his grandmother’s house after his mother, Mrs Olanireti, sent him.
However, a resident noticed suspicious movements involving the child and quickly raised an alarm.
As a result, community members responded immediately and intercepted the suspects before they could escape.
Their quick action prevented the suspected abduction and ensured the child’s safety.
Shortly after, police officers arrived at the scene and took the suspects into custody.
Authorities identified them as Adefarati Idowu and Adepoju Babatunde. They reportedly used an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle during the attempted abduction.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command commended the community for its alertness and cooperation.
The command stressed that such vigilance plays a vital role in preventing crime.
Furthermore, the police urged parents to remain cautious and monitor their children closely.
They also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.
The incident highlights the importance of community policing and collective responsibility in maintaining safety.
