The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to expanding judicial infrastructure in Abuja, promising that new court complexes will significantly improve justice delivery across the FCT.
Speaking on Friday during an inspection of ongoing High Court and Magistrate Court projects in Asokoro, Jabi and Garki, Wike expressed strong optimism that the additional facilities would effectively address the nation’s capital.
According to the minister, the FCT Administration is deliberately investing in the judicial sector alongside other critical areas such as roads, schools and healthcare. He noted that strengthening the courts is equally essential to sustaining good governance and ensuring residents fully enjoy the dividends of democracy.
“We are not only executing road projects; we are also actively improving the judicial system by providing more court facilities for the FCT High Court and Magistrate Courts,” Wike stated.
He particularly praised the pace and quality of construction work in Garki, describing the progress as impressive. While acknowledging the challenging terrain in Asokoro, he confidently assured that the obstacles would be successfully overcome.
Importantly, contractors handling the projects have reportedly pledged to complete and hand over the new court complexes before the end of June.
He further emphasized that adequate office spaces and modern courtrooms will greatly reduce case backlogs, improve working conditions for judicial officers and ultimately restore public confidence in the administration of justice in Abuja.
The minister concluded by reaffirming the FCT Administration’s unwavering commitment to balanced development, stating that strategic investments across all sectors will consistently improve the quality of life for residents.
