The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that officials responsible for sanitation in the FCT’s Satellite Towns risk dismissal over negligence in waste management.

Wike issued the warning during an inspection tour of ongoing road construction projects across the FCT, following concerns raised by journalists over refuse dumps observed along the newly reconstructed Orozo–Karshi Road.

He said development efforts would not be undermined by operational lapses, stressing that accountability remains central to his administration.

“If by Monday I see continued negligence or refusal to comply with performance standards, I will not hesitate to terminate the appointment of those responsible,” the minister said.

Wike explained that the road projects are being executed under the directive of President Bola Tinubu to build a strategic and resilient road network in line with the Renewed Hope agenda.

He said the FCT Administration has shifted focus from the Abuja city centre to Satellite Towns, noting that several roads in Karshi have been fully reconstructed by Nigerian contractor, Atufa Construction.

According to the minister, contracts previously rescinded due to poor performance have been re-awarded, including the Karshi project now handled by SCC Construction Company.

Wike also inspected the Bwari–Kubwa Road, describing it as a critical infrastructure project expected to boost economic activities along the corridor. He said the 16–17 kilometre road is scheduled for completion by May 3, 2026.

The minister further directed the National Commission for Civic Awareness to ensure landscaping and environmental upgrades in areas such as Karshi are completed before the end of the year.

He said the ongoing projects would deliver lasting economic and social benefits to residents of Satellite Towns and the wider FCT.
