Why APC Hasn’t Officially Welcomed Fubara Yet and Explanation from APC national leadership on the delay.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC in December 2025 amid ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State.

APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda says the delay in formally welcoming Fubara isn’t due to internal control issues or opposition leadership conflicts.

The party opted to first welcome governors from northern states because of the upcoming Ramadan season and the large Muslim population in that region.

Yilwatda explained that political activities during Ramadan can be sensitive, so the APC prioritized receptions in the North before addressing the South.

APC leadership stressed the decision is strategic and cultural, not a sign of conflict with Fubara or influence from former governor Nyesom Wike.

Fubara’s official APC reception is expected after northern governors’ events conclude  timing set by party logistics and calendar considerations.

Fubara’s defection is part of a wider pattern of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections and follows a protracted political crisis in Rivers State.
