U.S. Embassy Warns of Possible Protests in Abuja

The Embassy warned that demonstrations could occur in Abuja today.

Officials linked the potential protests to tensions surrounding the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The U.S Embassy said previous protests by some groups resulted in clashes with Nigerian security forces.

It strongly advised U.S. citizens to remain in their residences.

Officials advised carrying proper identification at all times.

The Embassy also warned people to stay alert at public places such as shopping centres, cinemas and places of worship.

Travellers were encouraged to vary routes and travel times to reduce predictability.

The consular sections of the Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos remain open.

Officials advised citizens to register on the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for security updates.
