The United States Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria has temporarily closed its routine services because of possible protests in the Federal Capital Territory. The closure affects visa processing and American Citizen Services (ACS).

The embassy announced on X (formerly Twitter) that it will stay closed for routine business until Monday, March 9, 2026. Visa appointments scheduled for March 4 and 5 have been rescheduled. Applicants should check their emails or AVITs accounts for new dates. ACS appointments for March 5 have also been moved to next week. Those who do not see new dates can contact the embassy through the Visa Navigator platform.

The embassy advises everyone to follow its website and social media for updates. The closure comes as authorities warn of potential demonstrations in Abuja. Security officials have increased their presence as a precaution.
