President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to protecting democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria.

He gave the assurance during an interfaith breaking of the fast with leaders of political parties at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting brought together members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress and leaders of the Inter-Party Advisory Council.

President Tinubu said democracy remains central to Nigeria’s stability and unity.

He stressed that his administration will continue to protect democratic institutions and processes.

According to him, the rule of law must guide governance in a democratic system.

“The majority will have their way, and the minority will have their say,” the president said.

He added that no democrat should face intimidation under his administration.

Tinubu also highlighted the importance of internal democracy within political parties.

He said stronger party structures help build credible electoral institutions.

The president noted that direct primaries allow party members to participate more actively in choosing candidates.

The National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, commended the president’s leadership.

He said the party would continue to support Tinubu’s vision for the country.

The chairman of IPAC, Yusuf Dantalle, appealed to the president to review certain electoral provisions.

He raised concerns about the requirement of the National Identity Number for voter registration.

Dantalle warned that the rule could prevent some eligible Nigerians from registering to vote.

He also asked for the restoration of financial support from the Independent National Electoral Commission to political parties.

Dantalle also informed the president about a documentary marking 26 years of democracy in Nigeria.

The film titled “Unbroken Democracy” will premiere at the State House.

The project received support from Hope Uzodimma, chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.
