President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trip to South Africa and Angola following fresh security concerns arising from the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.

The President, who was scheduled to depart Abuja on Tuesday for the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg and later proceed to Luanda for the 7th AU–EU Summit, suspended his travel to receive additional security briefings.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu directed the military and police to deploy additional personnel to Eruku and across Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, following a request from the state governor.

He also ordered security agencies to pursue the attackers responsible for the assault on members of the Christ Apostolic Church and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended.

The President is awaiting updates from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on his behalf, as well as operational reports from the police and the Department of State Services on both incidents.

Reaffirming his earlier directive, President Tinubu instructed security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the 24 abducted schoolgirls from Kebbi State and ensure their safe return.
