President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate release of approved funds for Nigeria’s space assets maintenance.
He gave the directive at the first meeting of the National Space Council.
The meeting which was presided by Vice President Kashim Shettima was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Tinubu said Nigeria will not remain on the sidelines of global space development.
He insisted the country’s space ambitions must deliver measurable national value.
Subsequently, Tinubu directed that implementation costs of the revised 25-year space roadmap be forwarded to the Federal Executive Council.
The President further said space investments must serve farmers, teachers, entrepreneurs and security agencies.

Moreover, he noted projections that the global space economy could exceed one trillion dollars by 2040.
Adding that investments will improve agriculture precision, border security and disaster early warning systems.
Agencies listed include NASDRA, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT).
The Council further approved operationalisation of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Space Centre in Ekpe.
Officials said the centre will support satellite launch and maintenance capacity.
