President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to deploy all military and law enforcement assets to crush security threats and protect lives and property across Nigeria.

The President announced the procurement of mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles, a new armoured fleet, and the refurbishment of over 100 Armoured Fighting Vehicles for return to active service as part of efforts to modernise the Armed Forces.

Tinubu made the announcement on Monday in Ojuelegba, Lagos, while declaring open the 2025 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference at Nebo Hall, Abalti Barracks. He was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

“There is no nation that can achieve greatness without security. This government remains resolute in mobilising all military and law enforcement assets to eliminate security threats and protect the lives and property of all Nigerians,” the President said.

He stated that security remains a central pillar of his Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that the Federal Government is strengthening the Armed Forces through improved training, modern equipment, and enhanced operational capacity.

According to Tinubu, the government has advanced the procurement of additional MRAP vehicles, armoured vehicles, and patrol vehicles, alongside the recent induction of helicopters into Nigerian Army Aviation and the training of pilots.

He said the refurbished armoured fighting vehicles have been returned to service to boost troop protection and battlefield effectiveness, stressing that the measures demonstrate the administration’s commitment to operational readiness.

The President also disclosed that Nigeria is deepening defence partnerships with friendly nations to promote research, innovation, and indigenous defence production, with the long-term goal of achieving self-reliance in national security.

Commending the Nigerian Army for what he described as notable gains in counter-terrorism operations, Tinubu said reports from various theatres of operation point to improved outcomes driven by professionalism, courage, and effective joint operations.

He charged troops to maintain discipline, professionalism, and strict adherence to constitutional order, describing the Armed Forces’ apolitical posture as essential to public trust and democratic stability.

The President further praised the Army’s civil–military cooperation initiatives nationwide, noting that security efforts must include community engagement, restoration of dignity, and grassroots development.

Paying tribute to fallen soldiers, Tinubu said their sacrifices would remain permanently etched in Nigeria’s national memory, assuring continued support for their families and improved welfare for serving personnel.

Earlier, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commended the Nigerian Army for strengthening civil–military relations in the state and pledged continued support for its operations.

Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to providing consistent policy direction for the Armed Forces and urged unity and loyalty among officers and commanders.

In his welcome address, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, unveiled new welfare packages aimed at improving the wellbeing and morale of officers and soldiers, noting that President Tinubu has consistently met the operational needs of the Army.

The conference featured the unveiling of a biography of the late former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, by Vice President Shettima.

The Vice President also presented 15 Toyota Hilux vehicles to warrant officers and witnessed the presentation of insurance cheques to families of five fallen soldiers.

The event was attended by senior military officers, former service chiefs, traditional rulers, and representatives of the National Assembly.
