Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of former Chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), Chief Israel Ogbue, who passed away at the age of 99.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the President commiserated with the Ogbue family, the Elumelu family, and the management and staff of UBA over the loss.

Chief Ogbue had a distinguished career in the Federal Civil Service and worked with the National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria (NICON) and NAL Merchant Bank.

He joined the board of UBA as a non-executive director in 2005 and was appointed chairman in 2011, serving until 2013.

President Tinubu said Chief Ogbue provided steady and principled leadership during a critical period in the bank’s transformation.

The late banker was the father of Dr Awele Elumelu, wife of UBA Group Chairman Tony Elumelu.

The President described Chief Ogbue as a devoted family man, committed public servant, and a humble Christian who dedicated his life to serving the church and the less privileged.

He prayed that God would grant eternal rest to the departed and comfort his family.
