President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for what he described as impactful reforms and sustained institutional transformation within the Service.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu congratulated Adeniyi on his birthday, noting that the milestone reflects decades of dedicated national service and reform-driven leadership.
The President acknowledged that under Adeniyi’s leadership, the Nigeria Customs Service has made significant progress towards becoming a globally competitive Customs administration, citing the Comptroller-General’s election as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council in June 2025 as a major indicator of international recognition.
“The President notes the remarkable reforms that have repositioned the Nigeria Customs Service and elevated Nigeria’s standing within the global Customs community,” the statement read.
Tinubu further praised Adeniyi’s role in projecting Nigeria and Africa on the global stage, particularly through efforts to mobilise Customs administrations and stakeholders towards the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) using the Customs Partnership of African Cooperation in Trade (C-PACT) platform.
According to the statement, internal reforms introduced by the Customs boss — including automation, digitisation, capacity building and strengthened international engagement — have led to measurable improvements in revenue generation, trade facilitation and border security.
The President also noted that Adeniyi’s leadership has contributed to improved community relations, consistent surpassing of revenue targets, enhanced trade partnerships and strengthened border protection nationwide.
“These achievements underscore the value of reform-oriented leadership in strengthening national economic resilience and safeguarding our borders,” Tinubu stated.
He concluded by praying for continued strength, good health and wisdom for the Comptroller-General to further serve the nation.
