President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged stronger development collaboration with Taraba State following the formal defection of Governor Agbu Kefas and his supporters to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu at the event, described Taraba as strategic to Nigeria’s food and energy security.
He assured Governor Kefas of his full place in the ruling party and a sustained development-focused partnership.
Shettima added that, Taraba plays a vital role in national cohesion and economic stability, noting that the state sits at the intersection of agriculture, energy resources and industrial potential.
Emphasizing that the APC was built as a unifying platform to bring regions together around shared national goals.

According to the Vice President, Governor Kefas’ decision to join the APC reflects an understanding of governance as partnership rather than isolation.
Narrating that the ruling party grows through inclusion, performance and shared responsibility.
The Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, who represented the Senate President, congratulated Governor Kefas and described the defection as a strategic move that would boost agriculture, infrastructure and economic development in the state.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda, welcomed the Taraba Governor, describing his move as a step toward accelerating development and aligning the state with federal policies.
In his remarks, Governor Kefas said his defection was driven by the desire to deliver development, infrastructure and opportunities for the people of Taraba.
Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, who represented the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, said the move would attract more federal support and development projects to Taraba.
The highlight of the event was the formal presentation of the APC flag to Governor Kefas, symbolising his recognition as the party’s leader in Taraba State.
