Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has accused the leadership of the Nigerian Senate of forcing through the approval of a section of the electronic voting bill without making necessary amendments.
Tambuwal, who represents Sokoto South, said there was tension on the Senate floor after minority lawmakers rejected the way the matter was handled.
He explained that the minority bloc alleged the move could be used to manipulate the electoral process, especially if proper corrections are not made to ensure transparency and fairness.
The senator warned that such a rushed process could create distrust among citizens,
urging the Senate leadership to ensure due process is followed when passing laws related to elections.
The electronic voting bill is considered a key reform aimed at improving the credibility of elections in Nigeria, but it continues to generate debate among lawmakers.
The full interview is available on the BBC Hausa morning program on its official website.
The development is attracting public attention as Nigerians continue to monitor how the National Assembly handles critical electoral reforms.
