The Federal Government has revealed plans for the Sokoto-Badagry road project, describing it as a major infrastructure initiative that will boost Nigeria’s economy, create thousands of jobs, and improve transport efficiency across the northern and southwestern regions.

The Minister of State for Works explained that the Sokoto-Badagry highway will connect key commercial hubs, reduce travel time, and facilitate trade, making it a critical project for economic development and regional integration.

The Minister emphasized that the project will: Create jobs for engineers, construction workers, logistics operators, and local suppliers. Boost trade by lowering transportation costs and improving connectivity between Sokoto, Lagos, and neighboring states. Stimulate local economies along the road corridor by increasing access to markets for agricultural and manufactured goods. Support investment opportunities and industrial growth along the highway.

He added that the Sokoto-Badagry road project is aligned with Nigeria’s National Infrastructure Development Plan, which seeks to modernize road networks and enhance economic growth and job creation.

The Ministry of Works assured that the Federal Government is committed to completing the project on schedule. Oversight measures include:

Continuous monitoring of construction quality and safety standards. Transparent procurement and contract management to ensure value for money. Engagement of local contractors and workforce to maximize employment opportunities.

The Minister highlighted that high-quality construction and strict adherence to safety standards will ensure the road’s durability and long-term economic impact.

The project is expected to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s infrastructure development goals and strengthen economic integration between states.

The Ministry of Works plans to fast-track execution, encourage private-sector partnerships, and ensure strict timelines. Local communities and civil society are encouraged to monitor project progress to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient delivery.
