Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on the media to partner with government in strengthening democracy.
He made the call at a book presentation and 60th birthday celebration of Babajide Kolade-Otitoju in Abuja.
Shettima said the media plays a critical role in shaping public discourse and promoting accountability.
He noted that democracy thrives when journalists interrogate ideas and ask difficult questions.

The Vice President warned that institutions and public conversations deteriorate when left unchallenged.
He described the media as a “republic of conscience” that must promote truth and critical thinking.
Shettima praised Kolade-Otitoju for fostering a culture of critical engagement through his programme.
He said the journalist’s career reflects dedication to integrity and intellectual rigor.
Also speaking, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq commended the media for supporting democracy and national development.
Other speakers highlighted the importance of responsible journalism in sustaining democratic values.
They noted that critical thinking helps protect society from misinformation and weak public discourse.
The event attracted government officials, media professionals and stakeholders across the country.
