Vice President Kashim Shettima has commissioned the Tudun Biri Resettlement Scheme in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s pledge to rebuild the community affected by a military drone incident.
The project delivers 133 completed housing units, educational facilities and supporting infrastructure to families displaced by the 2023 tragedy.
Promise Fulfilled
Shettima recalled that he visited Tudun Biri in December 2023 to console victims and announce President Tinubu’s directive to commence the resettlement project. He later returned in July 2024 to perform the project’s groundbreaking ceremony.
Speaking on Friday at the commissioning ceremony in Kaduna, the Vice President described the scheme as another fulfilled promise under the Tinubu administration.
He said governance must prioritise compassion, justice and national stability.
“This project shows that fairness holds a nation together. Compassion is not a weakness of the state, but its moral strength,” Shettima said.
Commitment to Affected Communities
The Vice President said the Tudun Biri scheme represents the Federal Government’s resolve to protect vulnerable citizens and rebuild communities affected by conflict and displacement.
He added that the project offers renewed hope to families whose lives were disrupted.
“The Nigerian state will not abandon its citizens in times of adversity. This scheme restores stability, rebuilds livelihoods and promotes lasting peace,” he stated.
National Resettlement Efforts Ongoing
Shettima explained that the project is implemented under the Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict (RSPIC). He disclosed that similar recovery projects are underway in Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Niger, Katsina and Benue states.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive recovery across the country.
Kaduna Governor Commends Federal Intervention
Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, thanked President Tinubu for what he described as compassionate leadership and timely intervention.
He also praised Vice President Shettima for supervising the successful execution of the project.
“The dignity of citizens must remain central to governance. The Vice President’s leadership was instrumental to this achievement,” Sani said.
NEMA Highlights Project Scope
Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, described the commissioning as a milestone in the Federal Government’s humanitarian recovery efforts.
She said the project aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises people-centred development and national stability.
Umar disclosed that while the original design provided for 143 housing units, 10 units were converted into a modern school facility.
The settlement now consists of 133 housing units and educational infrastructure.
Beneficiaries Express Gratitude
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Mrs Aisha Haruna and Mr Solomon John thanked President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for restoring hope and dignity to the Tudun Biri community.
They also expressed appreciation for the government’s continued support for displaced communities nationwide.
