The House of Representatives has constituted a bipartisan conference committee on the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill to harmonise differences between versions passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the House spokesman, Akin Rotimi Jr., on Thursday.
According to the statement, the decision followed an internal correspondence dated February 4, 2026, from the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Danzaria, conveying the directive of the House leadership.
The committee is chaired by Hon. Adebayo Balogun and includes Fred Agbedi, Sada Soli, Ahmadu Jaha, Iduma Enwo, Saidu Abdullahi, and Dr Zainab Gimba.
The committee is mandated to engage with its Senate counterpart to harmonise differing provisions of the bill ahead of final passage by the National Assembly.
The move comes a day after the Senate passed the Electoral Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Amendment Bill 2026 following a third reading.
The proposed amendments seek to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral framework ahead of the 2027 general elections, including stiffer penalties for electoral offences and adjustments to key administrative timelines.
The House reaffirmed its commitment to reforms aimed at improving transparency, credibility, and public confidence in the electoral process.
