Proposed Military Salary Structure Awaits Legislative Approval

A newly proposed salary structure for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces has outlined significant upward adjustments across both non-commissioned and commissioned officer ranks, pending approval and passage into law.

Under the proposal, a Private is expected to earn ₦300,000 monthly, while a Lance Corporal would receive ₦350,000. Corporals are proposed to earn ₦400,000, with Sergeants placed at ₦460,000. Staff Sergeants would earn ₦510,000, while Warrant Officers (WO) are proposed to receive ₦600,000. The proposed pay for Master Warrant Officers (MWO) stands at ₦680,000, while Army Warrant Officers (AWO) would earn ₦890,000.

For commissioned officers, the proposed structure places Second Lieutenants at ₦510,000 monthly, Lieutenants at ₦580,000, Captains at ₦690,000 and Majors at ₦770,000. Lieutenant Colonels are proposed to earn ₦850,000, while Colonels would receive ₦970,000.

At the senior command level, the proposal sets the monthly salary of a Brigadier General at ₦1.5 million, while a Major General would earn ₦2.5 million.

The proposed salary review is part of broader efforts to improve welfare, morale and operational effectiveness within the Armed Forces. However, the structure will only take effect upon legislative approval and formal enactment into law.

No official timeline has yet been announced for the consideration or passage of the proposal.
