The Federal Government has appointed former presidential Aide-De-Camp, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as the Acting Inspector-General of Police, placing a seasoned officer with more than three decades of service at the helm of the Nigeria Police Force.
Disu, a native of Lagos Island in Lagos State, joined the police on May 18, 1992, as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. Since then, he has held several key operational, intelligence, and administrative roles across the country.
Before his appointment, he served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, a position he assumed in February 2026. He also headed the Special Protection Unit at Force Headquarters in Abuja between March 2025 and February 2026.
His experience includes serving at the Federal Capital Territory Police Command and as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, where he supervised security operations in one of Nigeria’s most critical states.
Disu also served as Commissioner of Police, Administration and Intelligence, at the Force Intelligence Bureau. As Deputy Commissioner of Police, he led the Intelligence Response Team and later worked in administrative operations at Force Headquarters.
Between 2015 and 2021, he commanded the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, contributing significantly to crime prevention and emergency response.
Earlier in his career, he handled anti-kidnapping operations, led Special Anti-Robbery Squad units in Ondo and Oyo states, and worked on anti-fraud investigations in Katsina.
Notably, in 1999, Disu served as Aide-De-Camp to then Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a role that exposed him to executive security operations.
With his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of Police, Disu is expected to drive ongoing reforms, strengthen intelligence-led policing, and enhance internal security across Nigeria.
