Iran has urged the United States to show realism in ongoing nuclear talks, the call came after fresh negotiations in Geneva.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said Washington must drop what he described as “excessive demands” if both sides want a deal.

He made the remark during a phone call with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty. According to Araghchi, success requires seriousness from the United States and avoidance of miscalculation.

Although Araghchi did not specify the demands, US officials have repeatedly raised concerns about Iran’s missile programme and uranium enrichment.

US President Donald Trump said Iran has developed missiles that could threaten Europe and American bases abroad. He also claimed Tehran is working on missiles that could eventually reach the United States.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran is not enriching uranium at the moment. However, he warned that Tehran aims to regain that capability. He also criticised Iran for refusing to discuss its ballistic missile programme.

Iran Defends Nuclear and Missile Programmes

In response, Iran has defended its position. Officials insist the missile programme serves defensive purposes. They also maintain that uranium enrichment remains part of a peaceful nuclear programme.

Tehran has repeatedly ruled out abandoning enrichment. It argues that international law allows peaceful nuclear development.

Talks Continue with Omani Mediation

Iran and the United States, longtime rivals, held their third round of Omani-mediated talks in Geneva on Thursday. The discussions aim to prevent military escalation as Washington increases its military presence in the region.

Both Iran and Oman reported progress after the meeting. As a result, technical talks are scheduled for Monday in Vienna. In addition, both sides expect to hold a fourth round of negotiations next week.

Observers say the coming days will test whether both countries can narrow their differences and move closer to a nuclear agreement.
