The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a train incident near Asham along the Abuja–Kaduna rail line. The agency said no lives were lost.

The incident happened on Monday morning during a trip from Kaduna to Abuja. According to the NRC, a fault in the coupling system caused the rear locomotive to hit a passenger coach.

The Managing Director of the NRC, Kayode Opeifa, said the problem came from a mechanical issue. He added that the situation could have been avoided.

Some passengers suffered injuries during the incident. Emergency teams arrived quickly and moved the injured passengers to a nearby hospital.

The train had left Rigasa Station and was heading to Idu Station when the problem occurred. The issue happened shortly after the train passed Jere Station.

Officials activated safety procedures immediately. Technical teams also moved to the scene to restore operations.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has started an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.

The NRC assured passengers that safety remains its top priority. The agency said it will take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
