Norway’s Stroem Wins Women’s Normal Hill Ski

Norway’s Anna Odine Stroem won gold in the women’s normal hill ski jumping event at the Milano Cortina Olympics on Saturday.

Stroem edged Slovenia’s Nika Prevc after a tense competition decided by final scores.

Prevc led the trial round with a 103-metre jump and entered the event as the favourite.

Stroem topped the first round with a 100-metre jump to take a one-point lead.

Prevc jumped 98 metres in the first round and dropped behind in windy conditions.

Stroem followed with a 101-metre jump in the final round.

She finished with 267.3 points to win the title by 1.1 points.

The victory gave Norway its first gold medal of the Olympics.

Japan’s Nozomi Maruyama won bronze, finishing 5.5 points behind Stroem.

Prevc, 20, topped the women’s overall World Cup standings last season.

She also led the rankings earlier this winter.

Stroem celebrated the victory with her parents at the venue.
