NITDA, Google Discuss Cloud Adoption, AI Framework for Nigeria

The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has met with Google executives to advance cloud adoption and Artificial Intelligence in Nigeria.

Abdullahi hosted Charles Murito, Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy for Sub-Saharan Africa at Google, and his team. They discussed digital infrastructure, cloud policy, and AI frameworks to address national challenges.

The meeting forms part of NITDA’s efforts to drive Nigeria’s digital transformation. The agency continues to engage global partners to strengthen the country’s technology ecosystem.

During the talks, Abdullahi reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to clear and practical regulations. He said the agency focuses on workable solutions developed through stakeholder consultation.

Murito praised NITDA’s inclusive approach. He noted progress on the Cloud First Guidelines after broad consultations. He added that discussions on data classification helped shape a balanced framework.

Dr. Aminu Lawal, Special Adviser to the Director General on Policy, also spoke at the meeting. He gave updates on the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative. According to him, the project has passed through detailed technical work and stakeholder input.

He said the guideline is nearing completion. He explained that it will support secure cloud adoption, boost data protection, and strengthen trust in Nigeria’s digital systems.

Murito highlighted the benefits of cloud and AI tools. He said these technologies can improve education and healthcare delivery. For example, they can help manage teacher-student ratios and expand access to medical services.

The engagement shows NITDA’s commitment to building a secure and innovative digital economy through global partnerships.
