Heat stress occurs when the body cannot properly cool itself due to factors such as high temperatures, dehydration, poor ventilation, and physical exertion.
NiMet advised residents to take preventive measures to reduce health risks during the hot weather.
Key safety tips include:
• Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
• Stay in well-ventilated or air-conditioned environments when possible.
• Wear hats, sunglasses and sunscreen when outdoors.
• Choose light and breathable clothing.
• Ensure infants remain cool and properly hydrated.
• Never leave children inside parked vehicles.
• Avoid strenuous activities and remain indoors during the hottest period of the day, typically between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring weather updates and follow guidance from the meteorological agency as temperatures fluctuate across the country.
