The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned Nigerians to prepare for three days of dust haze and thunderstorms across parts of the country.
In its latest weather outlook, NiMet said dust haze will affect several northern states. As a result, visibility may drop significantly in some areas. At the same time, thunderstorms are expected in parts of the North-Central and southern regions.
According to the agency, the dust haze could pose health risks. In particular, people with asthma and other respiratory conditions may experience breathing difficulties. Therefore, NiMet advised residents to wear face masks where necessary and avoid prolonged exposure to outdoor dust.
Meanwhile, the agency cautioned that thunderstorms may come with strong winds. These winds could disrupt outdoor activities and damage weak structures. In addition, heavy rainfall may lead to temporary flooding in vulnerable communities.
NiMet urged citizens to monitor official weather updates throughout the period. Furthermore, it encouraged residents to take safety precautions to protect lives and property.
Overall, the agency stressed the importance of preparedness, especially in areas likely to experience extreme weather conditions.
