Nigeria, UN Strengthen Partnership on Youth and Women

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to deepen collaboration with the United Nations to empower women and youth.

Kashim Shettima made the commitment during a meeting with a UN delegation in Abuja.

The delegation was led by Felipe Paullier, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs.

Shettima outlined key priority areas for the partnership.

These include financial inclusion, skills development, job creation, and peace and security.

He said the government will use these areas to accelerate national development.

The Vice President described young people as the engine of national transformation.

He said the administration will convert Nigeria’s growing youth population into economic opportunities.

He reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to gender equality and youth empowerment.

Shettima proposed creating institutional frameworks to drive youth and women development initiatives.

He said the government will work with the UN and other partners to achieve these goals.

Paullier described Nigeria as a vibrant country with strong youth potential.

He said the UN recognises Nigeria’s role in advancing youth development globally.

He noted that the UN has expanded its youth-focused programmes since 2022.

The UN official said Nigeria is on the right development path.

He urged leaders to prioritise youth inclusion in decision-making processes.

He stressed that gender equality and access to education remain critical for progress.
